This activity is possible only from November to January.
After breakfast, we take the famous RN1 road which leads us to Arta. This is the road taken by Ethiopian truck drivers, which connects the port of Djibouti to Addis Ababa.
After about thirty km, we leave the RN 1 to go up to Arta. It is a charming little town located 500 meters above sea level where many business executives, senior civil servants, or members of the government have a second home because the temperature is very pleasant there, with 4 degrees less than in Djibouti.
We go down on the beach by a track which offers us a superb panorama. Arrived on the beach, we took a boat that would take us to meet the whale shark. As soon as the pilot of the boat has spotted it, we jump into the water to swim a few seconds above hit, thanks to our flippers, mask, and snorkel.
The whale shark is an impressive animal several meters in length, but it is fortunately harmless. Djibouti is one of the few places in the world where it is so easy to approach it. We must preserve this animal, so we are careful not to swim too close to it to avoid disturbing it.
At the end of the boat trip, we have lunch in the shade of a straw hut on the beach.
The afternoon is devoted to snorkeling; indeed in this place, the underwater fauna and flora are extraordinarily beautiful. We return to Djibouti at the end of the afternoon.
