Decan Animal Shelter

Djibouti, Djibouti

DECAN is an animal refuge about fifteen km from the center of Djibouti on the road towards the Somali border.

It has been open since 2003 on the initiative of the french veterinary doctor B. Lafrance.

This 30-hectares animal refuge welcomes different kinds of animals that are injured or that their owners can no longer keep ; we find there, according to the periods, ceetahs, caracals, oryx, porcupines, turtles, baboons and several species of birds.

The animals saved from poaching are treated there and released when their life is over in danger.

This refuge operates within the framework of an association whose objectives are the preservation of endemic species of Djibouti.

The site is open for visits on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays afternoons.
