The Assamo region is located about thirty km from the town of Ali Sabieh, itself less than 100 km from Djibouti. In the Afar language Assamo means « red hair », and it is true that the ocher colors of the mountains are magnificient here. It is a border region with Ethiopia and Somaliland, overlooked by a military fort of the Djiboutian army.
Our arrival at the Assamo camp is scheduled for the beginning of the afteernoon ; it is located on the edge of a wadi, near the natural protected area where the endemic beira gazelle lives.
This is an ecotourism camp, very well equipped and perfectly integrated to the natural environment.
We ‘ll prepare the barbecue for our evening meal there, and spend the night in its superb huts.
The next morning, we will hike to meet the Beira gazelle, on one of the routes marked out from the camp.
After lunch on site, we will return to Djibouti.
